Celebrating Victoria’s 150th anniversary, historian Marie Elliott and architectural historian, Martin Segger, will give an illustrated lecture about the most elegant accommodation in the city during the gold rush years; the architect, John Wright; and first owners, Louis and Fanny Bendixen.  Judge Matthew Baillie Begbie stayed here as did Governor Arthur Kennedy and famous English travellers Dr. Walter B. Cheadle and Viscount Milton.

Former editor of B.C. History, Marie Elliott has written numerous articles and a book detailing the early years of the Cariboo gold rush, Gold and Grand Dreams. Martin Segger and Douglas Franklin published a comprehensive study of Victoria’s buildings, Exploring Victoria’s Architecture.
